Harrison Branches

Harrison is my mother's line. I used to hear her say she was most likely related to the 'good' President Harrison -- not the 'bad'. But she did not identify which was which and conceded their relationship without changing her mind. She gathered a great deal of information on Harrisons and their collateral lines that blended in Bledsoe county Tennessee. One note from an aunt says: "Quantico Virginia to 1 mile Chappawaning Creek. Cross creek, turn inland a few miles to quaint old graveyard where rests earthly remains of our first Harrisons of Virginia." To my knowledge, mother never followed those directions. Her notes and family letters helped document this line back to:

William Harrison, b. abt 1797. The 1850 Washington county census states he was born in North Carolina. But at the time he was born, Washington county was in North Carolina, so it doesn't necessarily mean he was born elsewhere. Family tradition says his mother was Hanna Henderson and her surname was the source for William's son's given name. Family tradition gives William's wife as 'Becky' Ford and the census shows Rachel. No information as to whether there were two wives. Their children were: Henderson, John, Elizabeth, Jesse J., Samuel David, Lydia, Hanna, Isaac and William.

Henderson Harrison, b. 7 Dec 1823, Washington county, Tennessee d. 27 Feb 1874 m. 9 Mar 1845 in Washington county to Elizabeth Cox (daughter of John Cox and Nancy Gray) b. 8 Jan 1822, Jonesboro, Washington co. Tennessee. By 1860, Henderson was living in Hamilton county Tennessee. John and Ruth Cox were living next door to them. Henderson and Elizabeth's children were: Nathan M., Sarah Cathryn, William Anderson, Amanda I., John W., George M., James H. and Martha L.

William Anderson Harrison, b. 23 Jul 1850, Jonesboro, Washington county Tennessee d. 11 May 1933, Olustee, Jackson county, Oklahoma m. Nancy Elizabeth Vaughn b. 7 Feb 1855, Cherokee county, North Carolina d. 11 May 1939, Olustee. The family moved to Olustee pror to 1907 due to Nancy's ill health. They are shown in the 1920 census living alone in Olustee. Their children were: Alfred Henry, Thomas Franklin, Rachael Matilda, Ida Francis, John Henry, James Anderson, Flora Jerusha, William Carpenter, Joseph Benjamin, Minnie May Elizabeth, Claude Columbus and Mayme Eulemma.
